Quartet of Winners on ADC Open Series

There were four winners crowned on the Amateur Darts Circuit Open Series over the weekend, with another batch of players grasping the chance to play in the MODUS Super Series down in Portsmouth.

Each weekend winner will be guaranteed the £1250 participation fee, but more importantly in with a chance of £20,000 if they perform over the week thanks to their win on the ADC.

Over the four events in Manchester, we saw four different names claim the titles, with former tour card holders Jack Main and James Richardson setting the standard. But it was in-form Lewis Gurney who took the opening event.

Gurney recently qualified for the UK Open where he produced a string of shocks, and he continues his winning form by claiming event one in the North West. He cruised through the early rounds, before needing a last leg decider to defeat Scott Taylor. Gurney would then defeat former JDC tour winner Harry Gregory with a 93 average to seal his place in the quarter-finals. Tom Cromwell would be put to the sword in the semi-finals, before defeating Colin Osbourne in the final to round off an excellent opening display.

ADC regular James Richardson would claim the second event of the day, defeating some of the country's top amateurs in the process. ‘Ruthless’ defied an 88 average from Ash Khayat to set up a last 16 meeting with Jarred Cole, and despite average seven points less, the Northamptonshire thrower would progress. Richardson would up his game to record 4-0 and 5-1 wins over Paul Anderson and David Davies respectively, before completing the job with a 6-3 win over Chris Wickenden.

Jack Main would join the party on the Sunday afternoon after previously reaching a quarter-final the day before. It hasn’t all been plain sailing for Main since losing his tour card, but after spending some time on the exhibition circuit in Germany he seems to have found his form again.

The Norfolk based thrower defeated Colin Osbourne early on before gaining revenge over Sam Cromwell, who he lost to earlier in the weekend. A 93 average saw him past Simon Preston, before overcoming another last leg decider, this time, with Nathan Care. Lewis Gurney would await in the final, and despite giving away a nearly ten-point advantage in the averages, Main would hold his nerve to claim an ADC event win.

Matt Clark would produce an impressive string of performances to add his name to the list of weekend winners in Manchester. The tough draws would continue for Colin Osborne as he once again lost to the eventual champion. From that point, Clark would produce three consecutive 90+ averages as he romped into the final. David Evans would lay in waiting but could do little to stop ‘Superman’ who ran away a 6-1 winner.
