ADC Top Two To Clash?
After a successful couple of days up in Manchester last week for the Winmau Championship Tours, the action returns in the Amateur Darts Circuit this weekend as the race for the World Darts Open continues with many looking to boost themselves up the rankings.
Number 1 Matt Jackson did not enter Championship Tours 5 and 6 last week due to taking part in the Online Live League, but with a 229-point lead from second placed Steve Brown you could say he had the right to a week off.
The Action will return to Bar501 having played the weekly Kingswood Round Robin tournament on Thursday, losing in the Final to Robbie Long 4-3 after beating his main rival in the rankings 4-0 at the Quarter Final stage.
The 38-year-old walked away with another 16 points to add to an ever-growing tally, which if the run continues will see him qualify as a seed for the £10,000 competition at the start of December in Sussex.
The top two in the rankings will both return to the oche this weekend, with both entered for the Albert Nelsey Gainey Memorial Cup Round Robin 2. The competition will be tough with Winmau Championship Tour Plate Knockout winner Jenson Walker and Robbie Long also registered on Saturday.
Tony Wood the Friday night king also returns to action this weekend for the McClurg Scaffolding LTD Darts Open 2022 at the Sky Lounge in Washington but knows the competition will be extremely tough with two PDC tour card holders also in the mix, with no Players Championships taking place due to the Queensland Darts Masters in Australia in the PDC.
The quality within ADC sanctioned competitions is vastly improving by the week with Ryan Joyce and Chris Dobey involved despite both knowing they are ineligible for ranking points.
Three players in the top 16 will be in Washington on Saturday with 54-year-old Cockfield born thrower Wood as well as Geoff Murray and Kevin McDine who will want to do well having missed the events last week in Manchester.
The ADC will also host a Lady’s Only GSoD at Riley’s in Chorlton on Saturday with the event being sanctioned so points will be on offer in Manchester. Plenty of familiar faces will be taking part including the first lady to earn a PDC Tour Card in Lisa Ashton, with the Lancashire Rose a leading inspiration having conquered Q School as well as playing on both the Winter Gardens and Ally Pally stage.
An upcoming star in Eleanor Cairns will also be in action having won the recent WDF Girls Championship at Lakeside back in April before playing in Championship Tour 6 last weekend, losing in the First-Round to Eddie Mordica.
Mandy Smith a recent winner at the second undisputed night of the year is also taking part so its safe to say, predicting the winner will be nothing short of a struggle for the first Lady’s GSoD.
